Forward Program

CGNA goals include the following:

• increase the level of community awareness of geographic names
• Develop and deliver an educational program to promote the significance of geographic place names in the community
• Develop National guidelines for geographic place names
• Promote the National guidelines for geographic place names to each jurisdiction
• Work is progressing on developing guidelines for:
• Dual Naming
• Second Level Domain Names (2LD)
• Trade Marking
• Defining a feature's extent
• CGNA will continue to broaden the recognition base for its role as the Australian New Zealand focus group on geographic place name issues.
• Encourage users to adopt correct names in map production and spatial databases and promote the use of correct names by Map/Spatial database producers
• Adopt the national ASDI compliant Data Model for geographic place names
