Model 6011 Niskin Winged Current Meter
{6011 Bob Calvert}

Model 6011 Recording current meter

The Niskin Winged Current Meter, has no external moving parts that can be clogged, fouled or dislodged.
Principle of Operation: Winged housing is turned in the direction of the flow and swept away from the vertical by the water current; a measurement of the magnitude and direction of the tilt provides speed and direction of the current. The standard sensors are inside an aluminum housing protected from waterborne debris and rough handling. The standard meter is equipped to record current speed, direction and temperature. Optional pressure and conductivity sensors available.

Features:

Specifications:

Burst Sampling:
1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 readings per burst at intervals of 2, 4, 8 seconds.
Speed range: 0-300 cm/sec. Velocity: Threshold +2 cm/sec. Interchangeable wings provide optimum data resolution for anticipated current speeds.
Data Storage: Removable RAM cartridge 64k, 128k, 256, and 512k. RAM cartridge downloads to IBM PC/XT/AT, using RAM Reader Kit (Model 6011RR).
Direction: Three-Axis Fluxgate compass 0-360 degrees accuracy ± 2 degrees; resolution 1 degree.
Battery: Lithium Cells (2) -1 year or 40,000 32 sample averages.
Activation: Turn-on switch on the outside of the pressure housing.
Operational Depth: 5000 meters
Time Reference: Solid-state crystal controlled oscillator; ± .1 sec/day accuracy - GMT absolute.
Measuring System: During the measuring period, signals from the sensors are digitized and placed in memory together with the time code. The data is shifted serially into the RAM memory cartridge.
Attachment Method: Clamp-on motion-compensating standoff. View Typical Mooring Configruations: 6011deply.jpg
