Publications - Standards & Practices for Control Surveys

Version 1.6 - November, 2005

The Standards and Practices for Control Surveys, frequently referred to as Special Publication 1 (SP1), is produced by the Intergovernmental Committe on Surveying and Mapping.

There have been several editions of this publication since it was first produced in 1990, leading to the current version (1.6). The changes to this version are documented in the amendment list in the front of the document.

Version 1.6 has been produced to remove superseded sections and to link others to the GDA Technical Manual.  A major addition is the inclusion of Positional and Local Uncertainty. Positional Uncertainty is a new and easily understood method of expressing the accuracy of a positions obtained independent of the surrounding survey network (e.g. Geoscience Australia's on-line GPS positioning service).   Local Uncertainty will gradually replace Order as a means of expressing the relative accuracy of positions.
