PSMAs Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF)
and
the Street Addressing Standard

PSMA had been working on the developemnt of an Australia-wide geocoded address file (to be called G-NAF) since the mid-1990's.  In the late-1990's it established a working group (G-NAF Group) to oversee the development of this file.

At the same time ICSM was reviewing the developemnt of an Australian and New Zealand street addressing standard.  This resulted in the creation of the ICSM Street Addressing Working Group (SAWG).

Because of the overlap in their work, these two groups worked closely with each other.  It is therefore not surprising that the new Street Addressing Standard was released in 2003 and G-NAF in 2004.

G-NAF is a composite of information supplied by Australia's government mapping agencies and land registries; the Australian Electoral Commission and Australia Post.  In order to keep it up-to-date G-NAF is up-dated quaterly.

More information about the information which is supplied by ICSM members can be obtained from the ICSM G-NAF Source Information page.

More information about G-NAF is available on the PSMA web site: http://psma.com.au/g-naf.
